“Lighting the torch with an arrow was one of the best torch lightings ever.  There was more pressure to make that shot than any during competition. The photographer did a great job of choosing an exposure that allowed you to see the archers face and detail in the flame. You can see the limitations of shooting on film in a high contrast situation. Today’s digital cameras have a much higher dynamic range.”

“I love outdoor venues that give a view of the city or location. Being able to see the divers floating among the buildings is spectacular and hasn’t happened since Barcelona. The perfectly pointed toes, tension in the muscles, and flying ponytail show the intensity of the diver. You just see the top of an umbrella that might have been in the stadium, but I like the photographer’s choice to not show much of the stadium other than the diving board.”

“I remember this image from all the way back in 1992.  It captures an incredible, overwhelming emotion for these athletes. It is hard to get all 4 runners looking in the same direction and reacting at the same time. Great timing on this photograph.”

“The “Dream Team” This is arguably the greatest collection of all stars to play on one team. Great capture of an important Olympic Moment.”

“Linford Christie is the oldest medalist in the 100m final with a gold at 32 years old. What an incredible feat. The slowish shutter speed allows the runner to stand out from the crowd behind him. His face looks calm while his leg and arm muscles still show exertion.”

“This is a great example of putting the viewer in the time and place. The photo not only shows the marathon, but also places it in context, so you know immediately that it is in Barcelona in front of the Sagrada Familia.”

“Winning a gold was quite an over achievement as Rosset beat the #1 and #4 ranked players on the way to gold.  This picture captures the rush of emotions as he won and is a great example of how anything can happen at the Olympics. I enjoy looking at the photographers in sports photographs. There are gaps between the six photographers in this shot. At the Olympics, in Rio, photographers filled all open spaces shoulder to shoulder and if someone moved, their spot was taken immediately.”

“I love this shot of Michael Jordan because it shows him up at the rim with no one else within striking distance, a metaphor for how he played his basketball career. Capturing him above the Olympic rings makes it a great shot for the Olympics.”

“There is so much going on in the photo, players are on the ground, one is upside down and two are falling. I love it. The intensity of the moment is palpable even without knowing when in the game this photo was taken.  Spain beat Poland in the final to win gold on their home soil.”

“As one of the favorites to win the 400m, he tore his hamstring and rather than quit and lie on the ground he tried to finish. His father ran out of the crowd and helped his son to the finish line.  This photo shows the Olympic Spirit in both father and son.”
